Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo remains widely recognized in Ethiopia for his long-standing commitment to promoting peace and stability across Africa.
Drawing on decades of political leadership, personal experience, and diplomatic engagement, Obasanjo has played a key role in peacebuilding efforts both in Nigeria and in several African countries. Even after leaving office, he continues to contribute to conflict resolution and mediation initiatives across the continent.
Obasanjo is regarded as a strong advocate of the Pan-African principle of ‘African solutions to African problems.’ The concept promotes the idea that Africa’s political, economic, and social challenges should be addressed primarily by Africans themselves, without external interference.
The principle emphasizes the use of the continent’s own knowledge, institutions, and leadership to resolve disputes, with regional organizations such as African Union playing a central mediating role.
Throughout his public service, Obasanjo has consistently supported dialogue, mediation, and African-led initiatives aimed at fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development across the continent.
